Established in 2016

We did our first canoe trip in the Boundary Waters in August of 2016.  We learned a lot on that first trip.

We try to go every year but sometimes its every other year.  Usually 5 days on the water.  The first trip we used an outfitter – they were great but we had three packs and were carting around a cast iron frying pan and a side of bacon.  We portaged and paddled  every day and fantasized about lighter packs.  Despite the triathalon feel of the trip we couldn’t wait to go back the next year.  So I scrounged up some canoe packs and we packed ourselves.   Our new meal plan leaned heavily on the modern (and lightweight) wonder of freeze dried meals.  But on the second trip we realized that there was an issue:  we were using standard issue, second string utensils from the junk drawer back home, which leaves your hand all gooky because the food bag is deeper than the spoon is long, and at the end of the day you’re really digging into those bags.  A regular spoon is just too short for most freeze dried meals, and fortunately we weren’t the first geniuses to notice this.

Enter the Long Spoon.  Available where quality camping supplies are sold.

The long spoon became a critical piece of the trip and a badge of honor.  We laughed at rookies with their short spoons and hands covered in freeze dried Pad Thai.  Still do.  Look forward to it actually.
